Bank of fixed resistance, capacitance and inductance standards with defined frequency characteristic up to 1 MHz for automated calibration of LCR meters.
Idea behind M550 Impedance Calibrator is to replace countless single value LCR standards with one calibrator that can switch between the standards like a CD changer in your car. The calibrator contains stable and temperature independent resistance standards, partial capacitance standards and partial inductance standards, simulated by RC T-type passive network. Calibration values of both complex parameters of partial standards are displayed on large LCD screen in preselected pairs of parameters as well as voltage, current and frequency readouts from built-in test signal meter. OPEN and SHORT reference positions are available as well. Easy recalibration system offers either full recalibration in all spot frequency points or simplified offset calibration. History of calibration values of partial standards at reference frequency 1 kHz can be easily recalled.
Calibration domain
M550 was designed for calibration of LCR meters in frequency range up to 1 MHz. The philosophy of M550 is based on remote control and automated calibration. For this reason, the calibrator is equipped with RS-232 and GPIB interfaces and of course, supported in CALIBER/WinQbase calibration software.

An impedance tuner is an apparatus, which generates controllable reflection factor (Impedance) over a certain frequency range. Focus uses two basic technologies:
a) For frequencies from 100MHz to 110GHz (and above) we use the slide screw technique (models Multi Harmonic MPT, wideband (fundamental) CCMT, harmonic rejection PHT), in which a reflective probe (slug) is inserted into the slot of a low loss slotted transmission line (slabline or waveguide).
b) For frequencies from below 10MHz to 170MHz we use a lumped element technology (models LFT), whereby variable capacitors are connected with optimized lengths of coaxial cable.
Focus provides the deepest portfolio of wideband fundamental and harmonic passive tuners. Passive impedance tuners generate controllable reflection factor (Impedance) across the smith chart over a given frequency range. Focus uses two basic technologies:

Most Focus Passive Tuners use long lasting RF probes which are designed for optimal tuning accuracy and are free of spurious resonances. The combination of multiple probes provide ultra wideband coverage in one single tuner. All Focus Passive Tuners are LAN controlled and include on-board impedance synthesis firmware.

Transmission line probes are a special type of passive probe designed for use at very high frequencies. They replace the high impedance probe cable found in a traditional passive probe with a precision transmission line, with a characteristic impedance that matches the oscilloscope input (50 Ohm). This greatly reduces the input capacitance to a fraction of a picofarad, minimizing the loading of high frequency signals. A matching network at the tip increases the DC input resistance. While they have lower DC input resistance than a traditional passive probe (usually 500 Ohm) to 5 kOhm), the input impedance of these probes remains nearly constant over their entire frequency range. A traditional /10 passive probe will have a 10 MOhm) input impedance at DC, however this impedance drops rapidly with frequency, passing below the input impedance of a transmission line probe at less than 100 MHz.
